Where to Stay in Copenhagen

If you’re wondering where to stay in Copenhagen, you’ve come to the right place!

A city as vibrant and eclectic as Copenhagen calls for an accommodation of the same caliber, wouldn’t you say? While scouring Booking.com* for affordable and centrally located hotels with cool Danish vibes, we came across two different hotels in Copenhagen’s coolest neighborhood. We couldn’t choose between the two hotels, so we figured we’d try ’em both out.

Here are our recommendations for where to stay in Copenhagen!

Vesterbro (Neighborhood)

Of all Copenhagen‘s districts, Vesterbro is the place to be. The former working-class neighborhood and red light district has transformed into the city’s hippest district, with Copenhagen’s best new and trendy cafés, shops, bars, and restaurants. Believe it or not, Vesterbro was even voted fourth of the top ten hipster neighborhoods in the world, by Thrillist.

In Vesterbro, you’ll find the old Meatpacking District, whose new stylish art galleries, bars, and restaurants have transformed the area into one of the city’s best places to hang out. “Copenhagen’s Paris” also lies in Vesterbro, on a street called Værnedamsvej; this charming French-like street is home to tons of cafés, restaurants, cheese and chocolate shops, delis, and wine bars. The world-famous Mikkeller Bar, which has 20 beers on tap at all times, also resides in Vesterbro. These are just a few of the delights tucked away in the trendy borough.

You could easily spend your entire trip to Copenhagen in Vesterbro alone, but if you wish to see the likes of Nyhavn, Østerbro, or Norreport, you’ll be only a stone’s throw away.

That all sounds lovely doesn’t it? So now that we’ve decided on a neighborhood, let’s check out its best hotels.

Andersen Boutique Hotel

Located in the heart of hip Vesterbro, the Andersen Boutique Hotel is one of our two recommendations.

The Andersen Boutique Hotel lies just a four-minute walk from Copenhagen Central Station, so between that and its neighborhood, the location couldn’t be more ideal.

But we didn’t just love this hotel for its location. Let’s talk about the Andersen Boutique Hotel’s guest rooms next, shall we?

As soon as we swung open the door to our room, we were surprised. In a good way. With so much space and such a trendy, modern design, how couldn’t we be pleased? The space was functional, too, with a desk, a lovely living area to relax in, a flatscreen television which could be angled toward any area in the room, a large bathroom, and of course, a comfy bed. Waking up in such a vibrant and cozy room each morning made us excited to be in Copenhagen, ready to explore everything the city had to offer.

What more can you ask for, really?

Wine? Well, yeah, I guess so.

Perhaps my favorite part about the Andersen Boutique Hotel was its complimentary wine hour for all hotel guests. Unlimited wine, every day, from 5-6 p.m. Yes!

Other amenities offered at the Andersen Boutique Hotel were complimentary high-speed internet, an awesome breakfast spread including pretty much anything we could imagine, tons of comfy lobby seating (complete with board games – yay!), rental bikes, and complimentary newspapers and magazines.

Another perk? The Andersen Boutique Hotel offers a little thing called CONCEPT24, allowing you to check out late, for no extra charge. In other words, if you check-in at 5:00 p.m., the room is yours until 5:00 p.m. on your departure date. Pretty awesome, right?

Absalon Hotel

Our second hotel recommendation is none other than the Absalon Hotel, one of Copenhagen’s oldest family-owned hotels. Coincidentally, the Absalon Hotel lies just across the street from the Andersen Boutique Hotel. This means that it’s also located in Copenhagen’s coolest neighborhood, and it’s also just one block from Copenhagen Central Station.

One particular favorite about this hotel included yet another trendy and ultra-spacious guest room. It even included a kitchenette, a desk area, another seating area, and nice street views through its many windows.

If I learned one thing during our trip to Copenhagen, it’s that the Danes know how to combine functionality with style flawlessly. And that specialty was echoed throughout our guest room at the Absalon Hotel, in the kitchenette, in the vibrant color scheme, in the heated bathroom tiles (LOVE!), and so on.

Our guest room at the Absalon Hotel had it all, and then some.

Down in the Absalon Hotel’s lobby were more cozy seating areas, recreation rooms with foosball and more, a full bar, and an area designated for the hotel’s varied breakfast spread.

The Absalon Hotel also hosts daily complimentary wine hours between 5 and 6 p.m. And I could seriously get used to that…

Where to Stay in Copenhagen

So there you have it, friends! Those are our recommendations for where to stay in Copenhagen! The hipster vibes and incredible restaurants, bars, and shopping will have you falling head over heels for Vesterbro. And we’re positive that you’ll love the Andersen Boutique Hotel and the Absalon Hotel just as much!

What to Pack for Denmark

Remember that the season of your visit to Denmark will help determine what you need to pack!

Of course, summer is warmer, and you can dress as you would in this part of Europe. But as expected the winter is very cold. Always bring a beautiful coat in winter!

Here are a few top tips of what to wear in Denmark:

• Wool coat: During the colder months a beautiful wool coat is essential for style and practicality. You will fit in with the locals with this one.
• Packable jacket: Bring a jacket that can be rolled up small into your bag, and make sure it is waterproof! This jacket is great as it will keep the chill off and is water-resistant for those inevitable downpours.
• Comfortable shoes: It is likely you will do a lot of walking so bring shoes you have worn in and make sure they are waterproof, soggy sneakers are not the aim during your time in Denmark!
• Floaty dress: In the summer opt for a long floaty dress so you stay cool, and bring a light scarf so you are always prepared to enter religious sites and cover your shoulders.
• Sunscreen: Nothing spoils your trip (and your photos!) more than sunburn. Remember to prepare with a good, natural sunscreen and stay protected.
• Reusable water bottle: Remember to keep hydrated during your adventures; it can’t all be wine and coffee all the time! Bring a reusable water bottle so you can keep topped up.
• Umbrella: No matter the season you should always expect rain. Pack a travel sized umbrella and keep it in your bag at all times.
• Travel insurance: As with any trip, you should ALWAYS purchase travel insurance in case anything goes wrong. I’ve had my fair share of travel mishaps!
